I grew up playing these Atari games, and this book finally explains the business decisions behind them. The hardcover binding feels sturdy, and the chapter on the market launch is surprisingly detailed.
The production quality on this hardcover is genuinely impressive — thick paper and screenshots that reproduce way better than I expected. It digs into the console's creation and market history without ever feeling like a dry textbook. I finished it in two sittings and immediately wanted a Vol. 2.
I've read plenty of retro gaming books that just recycle Wikipedia entries, but this one actually digs into the business decisions and marketing behind the console. The chapters on the early cartridge market were the highlight for me.
