スノーブラザーズ ニック＆トム（DMG）と8ビット版：各リリースの収録内容

Quick answer

The Snow Bros. Nick & Tom (DMG) release is the original Game Boy version, while the Snow Bros. 8-Bit Deluxe Edition is a playable NES cartridge. If you want the classic handheld experience, choose the DMG version. If you prefer playing on a TV or want the deluxe presentation, the 8-Bit Deluxe Edition is the better fit.

Snow Bros. has a long history across arcades and home consoles, and Limited Run Games has produced two distinct physical releases that often get confused. One is the Game Boy (DMG) version, and the other is the 8-Bit Deluxe Edition for NES. They are not the same game on different platforms; each release has its own contents, packaging, and play style.

This FAQ breaks down what you actually get with each version so you can decide which one belongs in your collection. We'll cover the format, the play experience, and the key differences that matter when you're buying.

What is the Snow Bros. Nick & Tom (DMG) release?

The Snow Bros. Nick & Tom (DMG) release is the Game Boy version of the game, often referred to by its original title, Snow Bros. Jr. It was designed for the monochrome Game Boy and later compatible with the Game Boy Color. This release is a physical cartridge that plays on original DMG hardware, Game Boy Pocket, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance.

If you grew up with a Game Boy in your hands, this version delivers the same portable, pick-up-and-play snowball action. The screen is smaller, the sprites are adjusted for the handheld's resolution, and the overall pace is tuned for short sessions. It's a faithful port that captures the core mechanics of the arcade original.

• Plays on original Game Boy, Game Boy Pocket, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance.
• Cartridge is region-free and works on any compatible handheld.
• Best for collectors who focus on handheld or Game Boy-specific libraries.

What is the Snow Bros. 8-Bit Deluxe Edition?

The Snow Bros. Deluxe Edition (8-Bit) is a playable NES cartridge released by Limited Run Games. It brings the arcade-style snowball action to the NES, a console that never received an official port back in the day. This is a new production, not a reproduction of a vintage cartridge, and it's designed to work on original NES hardware and compatible clone systems.

The Deluxe Edition label suggests a more premium presentation than a bare cartridge. While the exact pack-in contents aren't detailed in the catalog listing, the core item is a fully playable NES cartridge. This release is aimed at collectors who want to experience Snow Bros. on a CRT or modern upscaler through original hardware.

• Playable on original NES and NES-compatible systems.
• Deluxe Edition implies premium packaging, but check the product page for exact contents.
• Ideal for fans of 8-bit home console gaming and physical NES collections.

Can you play both versions on the same hardware?

No. The DMG version is a Game Boy cartridge, and the 8-Bit Deluxe Edition is an NES cartridge. They require different consoles. If you only own a Game Boy, you'll need the DMG release. If you only have an NES, the 8-Bit Deluxe Edition is the one that will work for you.

This is the most common point of confusion. Some collectors assume the 8-Bit version is simply a re-release of the Game Boy game, but they are separate products built for different hardware generations. Neither cartridge is cross-compatible with the other's system without additional adapters, which are not officially supported.

• Game Boy cartridge does not fit in an NES, and vice versa.
• No official adapter exists to play one on the other's hardware.
• Check your console before ordering to avoid a non-playable purchase.

Which version is better for collectors?

It depends on what you collect. If you have a shelf of Game Boy cartridges and enjoy handheld play, the Snow Bros. Nick & Tom (DMG) release fits naturally alongside other portable titles. It's also the only official Game Boy version of Snow Bros., making it a notable piece for handheld-focused collectors.

If your collection centers on NES or home console oddities, the Snow Bros. Deluxe Edition (8-Bit) stands out because Snow Bros. was never officially released on NES in North America. A playable NES cartridge of this game is a conversation piece. Both are limited pre-order items, so availability is not guaranteed after the pre-order window closes.

• Handheld collectors: prioritize the DMG version.
• NES and home console collectors: prioritize the 8-Bit Deluxe Edition.
• Both are open pre-orders for a limited time, so late buyers may miss out.

Are there other Snow Bros. releases from Limited Run Games?

Limited Run Games has also offered a Snow Bros. Nick & Tom Deluxe Edition, which is a separate product from the 8-Bit Deluxe Edition. That release is typically associated with modern platforms and may include different extras. The naming can be confusing, so always check the platform listed on the product page before ordering.

If you're looking for the Game Boy version specifically, search for 'Snow Bros. Nick & Tom (DMG)' or 'Snow Bros. Jr.' If you want the NES cartridge, look for 'Snow Bros. Deluxe Edition (8-Bit)'. The 8-Bit label is your clue that it's for NES hardware.

• Snow Bros. Nick & Tom Deluxe Edition is not the same as the 8-Bit Deluxe Edition.
• Always verify the platform in the product title before adding to cart.
• Pre-order windows are fixed; missing one means waiting for a possible second run.
