I grew up on Prince of Persia, so seeing Jordan Mechner's original Karateka get this kind of archival treatment is a treat. The region-free disc loads fine on my PS5 and the documentary footage on how he built the first game is genuinely fascinating.

I never played the original Karateka back in the day, so watching the remastered version side by side with the Apple II footage was genuinely eye-opening. The playable prototype builds are the real highlight here, it's wild seeing how much the combat changed between versions.

The archival design documents and original source code scans in this are genuinely fascinating if you grew up with Mechner's games. As a region-free disc, it also plays fine on my imported console without any workarounds. Only wish the pre-order window had been longer than a few weeks.
