GEX Trilogy on Switch, PS5, Xbox, and PC: Platform Differences Compared

Quick answer

There is no single best platform for everyone. Choose Switch for portability, PS5 or Xbox for living-room performance, and PC for flexibility and potential mods. If you want a physical copy, Limited Run Games offers region-free standard editions for Switch, PS5, PS4, and Xbox, but not PC.

The GEX Trilogy brings back the smart-mouthed gecko in a collection that spans three classic platformers. But the version you buy matters more than you might think. Each platform has its own strengths, and the right pick depends on how and where you play.

What each platform offers

The GEX Trilogy is available on Switch, PS5, Xbox, and PC. The Switch version wins on portability: you can play handheld, on the TV, or in tabletop mode. The PS5 and Xbox versions target living-room setups with higher performance potential, though exact resolution and frame-rate details are not supplied here. The PC version offers the most flexibility for settings and potential mods, but it is digital-only unless a physical release is announced.

• Switch: play anywhere, but performance may be lower than on home consoles.
• PS5/Xbox: best for a big-screen experience with a controller.
• PC: mod-friendly and scalable, but no physical edition from Limited Run Games.

Physical vs digital: what collectors should know

Limited Run Games produces physical standard editions for Switch, PS5, PS4, and Xbox. These are region-free, so they will play on consoles from any region. Each is an open pre-order for a limited time, meaning you must order during the window to secure a copy. PC players, however, do not get a physical option through this run, so digital is the only route.

• Physical copies are region-free and playable on any console.
• Pre-orders are time-limited; miss the window and you may pay more later.
• PC has no physical edition in this release.

Performance and features: what we know and what we don't

The supplied catalog facts do not include resolution, frame-rate, or platform-specific features for the GEX Trilogy. That means any claims about performance differences would be speculation. What we can say is that the Switch version prioritizes portability, while PS5 and Xbox are designed for home consoles. PC performance depends on your hardware. For the most accurate comparison, check official store pages or wait for technical analyses after launch.

• No official performance specs are provided in the catalog.
• Switch may trade raw power for portability.
• PC performance varies by your build.

Which version fits your setup?

If you mostly play on the go or share the TV, the Switch version is the clear pick. If you want the best visual experience on a 4K TV, PS5 or Xbox are your best bets. If you prefer mods, custom settings, or already game on PC, go digital there. And if you want a physical copy for your shelf, Limited Run Games has you covered on consoles—just mind the pre-order deadlines.

• Switch: ideal for commuters and handheld fans.
• PS5/Xbox: best for home theater setups.
• PC: best for tinkerers and mod enthusiasts.

Trade-offs at a glance

• Switch: Portability vs. potential performance gap. You gain handheld play but may sacrifice visual fidelity compared to home consoles. Choose Switch if playing anywhere matters more than top-tier graphics.
• PS5 / Xbox: Living-room performance vs. no portability. You get a big-screen experience but are tied to a TV. Choose PS5 or Xbox if you primarily play at home and want the best possible visuals.
• PC: Flexibility and mods vs. no physical edition. You gain customization but lose the collectible disc or cartridge. Choose PC if you value mods and digital convenience over a physical shelf copy.
