GEX Trilogy Classic Edition: What's in the Box Across Switch, PS5, Xbox, and PC

Quick Answer

The GEX Trilogy Tail Time Edition is a physical collection that includes the original 2D GEX plus both 3D sequels—GEX: Enter the Gecko and GEX 3: Deep Cover Gecko—running on Carbon Engine with extras and improvements. It's available for Switch, PS5, Xbox, and PC, and every copy is region-free. If you want all three GEX games in one package, this is the version to get.

GEX is back, and this time he's brought both sequels. The GEX Trilogy Tail Time Edition collects the original 2D platformer alongside GEX: Enter the Gecko and GEX 3: Deep Cover Gecko, all rebuilt on Carbon Engine with extras and improvements. Whether you grew up with the smart-mouthed gecko or you're discovering him for the first time, this physical release is the most complete way to play the series.

Below are the questions collectors and fans ask most about the GEX Trilogy Classic Edition—what's actually in the box, which platforms you can choose from, and how the physical release works.

What games are included in the GEX Trilogy?

The collection covers the full original run: GEX, the 2D side-scrolling platformer that started it all, plus the two 3D sequels, GEX: Enter the Gecko and GEX 3: Deep Cover Gecko. All three are playable from a single physical release, so you don't need to track down separate discs or worry about which console plays which entry.

This isn't a bare-bones re-release. The Carbon Engine powers the collection with extras and numerous improvements designed to bring GEX back into prime form. If you've only played one entry in the series, the trilogy format makes it easy to move through all three in order.

• Three games in one package: GEX, GEX: Enter the Gecko, and GEX 3: Deep Cover Gecko.
• Carbon Engine powers the collection with extras and improvements.
• Play them in release order to see how the series evolved from 2D to 3D.

Which platforms can I play the GEX Trilogy on?

The GEX Trilogy physical release is available for Switch, PS5, Xbox, and PC. That covers the major current platforms, so you can pick the one that matches your setup rather than settling for a platform you don't own. Platform selection happens when you order, so double-check your choice before checking out.

Every version is region-free, which means you can play it on a console from any region without worrying about compatibility locks. That's a meaningful detail for collectors who import physical games or own hardware from multiple regions.

• Available on Switch, PS5, Xbox, and PC.
• Region-free on all platforms—no region-lock headaches.
• Confirm your platform choice at checkout since it can't be changed later.

Is the GEX Trilogy a limited release?

Yes. The GEX Trilogy Tail Time Edition is an open pre-order for a limited time, which means copies are produced based on orders placed during the pre-order window rather than stocked indefinitely. Once that window closes, the standard retail run ends and you'd be looking at secondhand listings.

Limited Run Games uses this model regularly for physical releases, so if you want a guaranteed copy, ordering during the pre-order period is the only way to secure one at the listed price. After the window closes, availability depends entirely on the resale market.

• Open pre-order window—order during it to guarantee a copy.
• No restocks after the pre-order closes.
• Secondhand prices after the window can run higher than the original listing.

What makes the Tail Time Edition different from a standard re-release?

The Tail Time Edition is the physical collector's release of the GEX Trilogy, distinguished by the Carbon Engine rebuild and the included extras and improvements rather than just a straight port. It's a curated package built for people who want the series preserved in a form worth keeping on a shelf.

If you're comparing it to digital re-releases or emulated versions, the physical edition offers something those can't: a tangible copy that doesn't depend on a storefront staying online. For collectors, that permanence is often the whole point.

• Carbon Engine rebuild with extras and improvements.
• Physical format that doesn't rely on a digital storefront.
• Aimed at collectors who want the series preserved on a shelf.

Do I need to have played GEX before to enjoy the trilogy?

Not at all. The first game in the collection is the original 2D platformer, so the trilogy is structured as a natural starting point. You can begin there and work forward into the 3D sequels without missing context—each game stands on its own.

Longtime fans get the appeal of revisiting all three with modern improvements, while newcomers get a complete run of a cult platformer series in one purchase. Either way, the collection is designed to be played start to finish.

• Start with the original 2D GEX, then move into the 3D sequels.
• Each game works as a standalone experience.
• No prior series knowledge required.
